Nasa previously revealed plans to send plows to Mars to bring Mars’s stone samples back to earth. The Space Agency has now presented a revised strategy where perseverance will be used to move stones to spacecraft for returning trips.
The Space Agency said on Wednesday that they would send two miniature helicopters and aim to restore 30 mars samples to earth in 2033. Campaign design, which combined assistance from the European Space Agency (ESA), was anticipated to simplify the mission and encouragement in the future their success opportunities.
In his search for signs of ancient life, The Perseverance Rover, which landed on Mars in February 2021, has so far collected 11 samples. But returning them to earth for in -depth lab analysis will be a very complicated job.
The sample that took the Rover would require a second landing, which would add to the budget to send it to Mars to collect stone samples from this planet. Conversely, perseverance will be used by NASA and ESA to send stones to landing. The rocket will then be loaded with all 30 samples and placed in orbit.
Earth returns and lander sampling are scheduled to be launched in the fall of 2027 and summer 2028, each, and is expected to arrive back to Earth in 2033. A statement from NASA reads
Working together on monumental projects such as the return of Mars samples not only produces invaluable information about our role in cosmos but also strengthens our bonds to each other on earth, according to Zurbuchen.
Two new aircraft will have little weight gain, wheels so they can travel on land too, and small arms so they can take samples.
