Deepak Chahar has returned to the Indian team after almost six months, where he was treated for a back injury, for the Odi series in Zimbabwe in August. Rahul Tripathi has received his first Odi call, while Washington Sundar and Kuldeep Yadav have been included in the 15th squad for three matches in Harare.
Shreyas Iyer, Suryakumar Yadav, Ravindra Jadeja, Arshdeep Singh and Yuzvendra Chally, all of which are part of Odi in Western Indies, have been abandoned. Although there is no official word about choices, or non-selection, it can be understood that the main players are played as part of BCCI’s policy by remembering the crowded international calendar. India is currently playing the white ball series in the Western Indies, and the Asian Cup will begin on August 27 at the UAE, only five days after the last Odi in Zimbabwe.
Chahar last played at the representative level in the T20I series at home to the Western Indies in February. He took a back injury while undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru, where he recovered from the tears of the front thighs he diagnosed during the Western Indian match. He then sat on the IPL, where he was the biggest purchase of Chennai Super Kings at the 2022 auction, as well as all the international crickets played by India since then.
Kuldeep recently received a green signal from the NCA medical team after recovering from the hairline fracture on his right wrist, which forced him out of the South Africa T20i at home and the white ball tour of Ireland and England. He is in the squad that is currently playing in the T20I series in Western Indies. Kuldeep last played on the IPL for Delhi Capitals, where he took 21 wickets in 14 matches.
Washington, who last played for India in Odi against the Western Indies, has recovered from a hand injury last month and, recently, has acted for Lancashire in the district championship. He took five-for in the first round against Northamptshire in his first County match, and followed him with a beat of the winner of the 34*match. He has played one more match, against Kent, and took 3 for 24 in the second half.
Tripathi had received India’s first call in June for T20i against Ireland, but did not make Xi’s game. While he has made a name for himself with exploitation at T20, especially on IPL, Tripathi has a pretty good record in the 50-Over format too: In 43 lists of games, it has 1209 running with an average of 31.00. In the Vijay Hazare 2021 trophy, he made 199 running in five matches in 49.75.
Shikhar Dhawan, who led India in the West Indies Odis, will continue as the captain for this series as well, with regular captain Rohit Sharma continues to sit. People like Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Rishabh Pant and Mohammed Shami have also been rested.
